Boiler Cover v House Insurance
I took out Nationwide's Home Insurance when I got the mortgage (I know I could have got it cheaper but just did it to get the mortgage through quicker as we had a tight timeframe).
When we took it out we were told it covered loads of stuff, including the boiler. I'm just wondering if it's worth taking out a stand-alone cover for it, or just using that if anything went wrong?
We would like an annual service, but is it worth taking one of the covers that include it, or just booking one when we need it?

Don't go by what you were told, read the words yourself and check what you are covered for. I personally put some money away every year in a separate account to cover any eventualities like boiler or appliance breakdowns, which aren't usually covered in standard household policies.
If you save what you would have paid out on several years of cover you'll end up with enough in the kitty to pay for a repair or even a replacement - especially if you've checked what a lot of these policies cover (or don't cover).
Many of the gas boiler/central heating insurances are insisting that you pay out for a power-flush costing £200-300 before they'll even cover you so make sure you know what you are getting before you sign up and part with your moneyNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Thank you. Well I might do just that.
I rang up to query some of the wording of the insurance to make sure and it is covered if it breaks down. I'll save the money I would have spent on it for a rainy day!0 -
Nationwide cover is emergency only and a poor example of that.
You will spot £500 per breakdown... now break it up.
£100 oparts and labour... the rest for call out and 2 hrs labour yes £400!!
also spot the limitation.... in the event of an emergency we willc arry out a temporary repair.... we may do a permanent repair if at similar cost.....
Home emergency covers can be a little useful, and some home emergencys do more than others.... this one takes the biscuit and should be steered well clear off!Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0
