My stepdaughter and husband start their honemoon today. They have been planning for twelve months had booked trips to Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Pearl Harbour and Grand Canyon. They are gutted.

The Pearl Harbour trip could be replaced by a trip to USS Missouri which is adjacent and not run by the park service.

For everyone with trips booked, I hope this gets sorted out very soon for you. I know how I would have felt if it happened to us after we spent a year planning our dream honeymoon a few years ago. It's really being glossed over in the news, but has a huge impact on so many people and all those businesses.

That's some tour, Alcatraz and Pearl Harbor are about 2,500 miles apart.
....... and the rental car may need drying out :)
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Vegas is open. Red rock national conservation area is closed. As is Lake mead. Looks like hoover dam is open. Grand canyon is closed. But the west rim of the GC is open (run by Indian tribe so private land and a bit more expensive than the NP area but at least it's open!).

ETA Incidentally there are some parks that have public roads through them (ie. the park is closed, the road is open) but you couldn't pay me to get out of the car and try and sneak on to a trail or similar off the public road as I've seen people on other forums suggest! Monetary fines await those that do and besides, the park emergency services aren't likely to be running at full strength and it's rather easy to get in trouble out here!

Well, here we are in Sedona, due to stay at Yavapai Lodge in the grand canyon tomorrow, booked to stay 2 nights. No sign of it opening so we will have to choose somewhere else. We are due to stay in monument valley after grand canyon so our options are limited to that area.

    What a letdown :-(

    That is so disappointing.

Guess you will have to make the best of it and Sedona is a lovely place. If the natural water slide (slide rock) is still open it is fun if a little bumpy http://azstateparks.com/parks/slro/ it is a state park as oppossed to a national park so dont know if that makes any difference.

The meteor crater should be open I would think if you are limited to other places to go
