My washing maching blows a fuse between wash and rinse cycle

We had our kitchen refitted recently which involved disconnecting and moving our washing machine. it went back in nearly the same place and initially worked OK. Then after a couple of weeks the fuse blew in the plug. We put a new 13amp fuse in and it went back to the beginning of the cycle and worked without a hitch. This now happens about every 4th wash. We seem to have identified the fuse blows at the end of the wash cycle and somewhere either at the start of during the rinse cycle. Is it a concidence that the problem started when we had our kitchen refiited ,or is it a fault with the machine. As it does not happen every wash we do not think it is an electrical fault. The washing machine is between 3 and 4 years old and is used a maximum of 3 to 4 times a week. Any suggestions, feedback or help will be greatly appreciated.

  • there is another similar post somewhere on this subject. It might be worth switching the electricity off and taking the socket off where the washing machine is plugged in in case there is a loose connection. You may also want to check the hose outlet is not blocked especially as the fault seems to occur between the wash and rinse. The cost of calling an engineer and rectifying the fault is often as much as 50% of the cost of a new machine.
  • it my view it is important to identify the fault is a washing machine part and nothing elso before considering replacing it, unless it is an expensive machine and you want to go to considerable expense calling an engineer in who may or may not being able to fix it.From what is said the problem always arise between the wash and rinse cycle.
I would suggest the following in order of action.
    1. Put an extension on the washing machine plug and plug it into an entirely different socket. That may prove it is not a wiring fault in the wall socket.
    2. Check the water inlet pipe and drain pipe to ensure it is clear.
3 Try washingon a different programme
    4. Put the washing machine on a Boil wash wihich may the clear any muck etc
    4. If all that fails to solve the problem then it is almost certainly a part in the washing machine that needs replacing. It could be the motor then a replacement is necessary.
It just goes to show the life span of a washing machine can be under 3 years and in this day of a "Throw Away Society" repairs are often ridiculously expensive
I am no expert but I am trying to be logical to indentify if it is an electical. plumbing or a parts problem If someone is more knowleable and has other ideas perhaps they could post them

  • I have posted on this subject on another similar forum . My problem with my Zanussi washing machine stills persists and blows a fuse during the cycle usually after running for over 30 minutes.(But not very time I use it) I replace the fuse in the plug and it goes back to the beginning of the cycle and completes. Can anyone offer any ideas please before I contenplate buying a new washing machine. I do not get any error codes to give me any idea/clues as to where the problem lies .Thank you
