I put an offer on a house in July and took 2 months for the Vendor to even appoint a solicitor! So after 2 months of assuming things were progressing, we've only just got the ball rolling now

What?? Your vendor didn't appoint a solicitor for 2 months?? Would be making me worried about whether they had any intention of seeing it through, or were waiting for a better offer. I would strongly suggest you keep pressure on everyone now to proceed asap, as that is taking the proverbial. Good luck!
  • Thank you all, this is really insightful. Still no reply from the EA but we have resolved not to panic (yet) given some of the stories I have read here. I just hope we're not faced with the dilemma of selling our current home too quickly when the purchase of our hopeful new home is taking so long!

Perhaps the vendor is now looking for a property to move too. Takes time to build chains.
  • We were told they are emigrating because they're unhappy here. They've lived in this house for less than a year and we're slightly worried that they may have changed their minds and decided to stick it out. I will not jump to conclusions until I know more and promise to update on here!

Still need to time to make plans. Selling the house is only a tiny step.

Sod the Estate Agents, make your conveyancing solicitor do stuff.
