Ebico Feedback Please
Hi peeps,
I have just done fuel comparisons with MoneySavingEnergyClub and Energy Helpline as I am currently on EDF Energy Assist for electricity, which is ending this month. I am on Southern Electric 2 year capped Price Plan 2 for Gas and EDF will switch my account to their Standard (Variable) account if they don't hear from me.
Now even more confused, MSE says I am on the best tariff, but Energy Helpline says I can save £114 a year by switching to Ebico for duel fuel.
I have looked at old feedback for Ebico, which looks ok, but can't see any current feedback. Obviously, £114 is mega dosh, but am concerned that MSE doesn't include it.
Any current feedback much appreciated.

Try another comparison site like energyhelpline or ukpower - they definitely include Ebico. Surely CEC does also?0

I have used Ebico for 6 years now. They are very good as they don't keep upping the cost every 5 minutes. As they are non profit they only do it when they have to.
Unfortunately they are not the cheapest for electricity in my area, but gas is a good price.0 -
They came third in Which energy companies satisfaction survey with an overall score of 76% - not bad for a small supplier is it?
Google ebico reviews & you'll find a few links with reviews on them.0 -

IIRC at least the Top 6 were all 'small' suppliers, weren't they? The Top 6 generally come out very badly in Which satisfaction surveys.

True, though even when limited to the big 6 Npower are always around the bottom :money:0

I used them for a number of years, they were pretty good but to be fair how often do you ever need to contact them. However they started to become expensive and weren't competitive, they still aren't for us. If they ever became close to the top in price for us I'd use them again... I believe they peg their rates against their suppliers (one of the main players) so from what I remember when the big companies raise prices, they aren't too far behind0

I use them and they are pretty good.
Note that the comparison sites are funded by the energy suppliers: Ebico is less willing than other companies to spend money on promotion and so many of the comparison sites do not list them. So if they do not appear at all in one of the comparison sites that you have used, that proves nothing. Of course, if a comparison site showed them as being expensive then you would have to investigate further.0 -
I have been with them over 3 years, they use SSE as supplier and service, so in top for service
It does depend on your needs, there is not any advantage in duel fuel, no discounts, but also no standing charges or extra cost for paying the bill when you get it, I pay quarterly by DD on actual meter reading, and a paper bill [no extra cost there either]
There is only one unit price which I find very easy, no this or that tariff
I think for heavy users they may not be cheapest option, but for me it works, I could knock about £15 a year off my bills by switching, but for that small amount I am more than happy to stay with a not for profit organistion that does not penalise those on meters or who want to send a cheque to pay the paper energy billEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
The Money Saving Energy Club makes money for Money Supermarket and MSE from referral fees.
I've looked on the Energy Club's home page but I can see no mention of these payments. Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough...

However, according to this article on the Scottish Herald website, Martin Lewis said "the site had required huge technological investment and would receive referral fees."

Ebico don't pay referral fees which is why they don't appear in the Energy Club's listings.
So when Martin Lewis says 'we'll do a full market comparison to check if you're overpaying on your current deal' he's not really being totally honest.0 -
Ebico are paying a referral of sorts for friends of a 15 pound voucher, which is what I was searching for on here.
