My mum really IS disabled and in a wheelchair and I really DO have cancer (getting treatment so should still be around for a while!) so when a comp asks why I'd like a prize I often say because of those reasons.
Does that make me one of the bad guys :(
I'm not doing it for sympathy, it's just how my life really is!

On a rare serious note, for me. This is why I try to avoid moaning about the little things here. The same old stuff gets moaned about time and time again. It never resolves anything, all it does is makes people uncomfortable about what they do, or feel uneasy to talk about it freely.

I'll admit something, I have my own gripes about things that I don't like re comping that not one person here knows about. Because I don't see it as my role to nag at people about what they do. I have enough to think about re my own conscience, without trying to get everyone else to do it my way.

I don't EVER want to make someone question themselves or feel uncomfortable the way purple x just did. And thank you loads for being brave enough to say that purply one

I love tie breaker competitions, but they are hard to win ...
MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR
  • I normally make a fun poem with these types of comps and have won a few times. Good luck x

Thanks Dreaming and Blu (would thank your posts but the thanks button has vanished!)
I figure if I'm unlucky enough to have this crappy illness I might as well try and use it to my advantage when entering comps!
So far.....I've not won anything when having to give a reason so it's obviously not working.

I don't lie when doing tie breakers because imagine if someone called up to ask about what you'd written, if I lied I'd forget what I'd said and wonder what the heck they were on about!

I always try and use puns, stories or something clever! (ish.. haha)

I remember Mother's Day and it said, why is your mum the best. Everyone said "because she is kind and such and such"

I said she hides in the middle of the night and jumps out on me then runs away laughing...I'm 22! (Which is true and Horrible!!!)

But, it was different, so I guess different, funny, puns, promoting the company... but not 'becuase i never win anything..." when you know it's a full-on comper :P x

My latest one is along the lines of:
Why do I want to win? Well, I've got no sob story, no hard life, but this prize would make myself and the people I want to share it with very happy. And I like being happy!

So, just honest, and slightly confrontational (hmm, aka, me)

I've tried that with the no sob story line, didn't win, they gave it to someone who said they wanted to give it to charity...

I mostly tend to avoid these, not sure what the companies gain from it, I'm not one to beg for prizes, I prefer random draws (or skill, but I lack that mostly!).

You are right - the comments around mother's day and father's day make me cringe! Eg Why should you win this for your mum/dad? Why is your mum/dad special? I bet loads tell porkies to win if they have fallen out with their parent or their parent is dead!
