Best DVD to file software?

Hi, i want to backup all my dvds on my computer.

I only have a 40gb hard drive so i need to compress them

firslty what is the best program to use?

sencondly what is the best compression divx, xvid,....?

You could back them up using http://www.dvdshrink.org/ and when you want to actually do the backing up just back up the main title and not the extras unless you want the extras, after doing that you can convert them to avi with http://www.simpledivx.org/main/ be sure to look at the guides tho, you can usually get a DVD film shrunk down to 700mb especially handy u wish to stick a film on one CD but ofcourse you would have to consider quality when converting as the sound and picture wont look as good as the original, and converting one film can take 4-5 hours.

700MB for a DivX DVD would allow for a high quality rip.

DivX at one point were giving out free licences for their Convertor product. I never used mine, so that's a possibility. http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/converter/
