Converted to UK licence, so how many years?

My partner converted his 8 year old Malaysian full driving licence to a Full UK driving licence 2 years ago. So on car quote systems, how many years has he held "this" licence? It would seem unfair to state 2 years since he has ten years experience not 2.

He has held a UK licence for two years. I think generally the question asked is how long you've held a full UK licence?0

He has to answer the question he is actually asked, not the one he thinks he ought to be asked. If it asks how long he has held a licence he can say 8 years. However if it asks how long he's held a UK (or EU) licence he'll have to say 2 years.
Online quotes and price comparison sites are great for the 90% of people who have fairly normal circumstances, but they're not really set up to deal with anything out of the ordinary. He might do better to call up some insurers, speak to some real people and explain about his 6 years on a Malaysian licence, or to go through a broker who might be able to find an underwriter willing to give him credit for experience driving abroad.0 -
Did he sit a full uk test? Or was it a simple swap over?
Where I work we class a swap over as carrying on and a full test back to scratch0 -

I agree. Avoid Swinton, though.0 -
He sat a UK test, as is required for Malaysians.0

Thank you Aretnap. Do you have any recommendations of insurer and/ or broker who can handle this?
(Ironically, he is a safer driver than me and i have many more years experience and a claim 3 years ago.)
Do you also know the relative importance of years of driving experience compared to years of claim free?0 -
