SSE - "human error"

Just received my latest statement from SSE; gas usage seemed high although it was based on 'actual reading'. Checked the meter and reading is LOWER than the reading taken 3 wks ago. SSE customer services said "it's a human error, wrong figures entered on handheld, it happens". So, not impressed with the attitude and also not impressed because they wanted to increase my DD by £15.00 ( I already pay £132.00 ) per month for dual fuel. So... I switched today to Sainsbury's Energy and am saving £33.00 per month. Happy with that. Thanks MSE.:D

Chances of £132 of SSE energy costing £99 when bought from Sainsbury's is approximately zero.
Don't see what the problem with SSE's response was - they told you plainly what happened.
Wonder how you will assess the 'attitude' of Sainsbury's personnel when you telephone them in six months time querying why they are putting your debit up to £165 per month.0 -
Oh dear, You are most certainly not 'saving £33 a month'. Your DD is currently set at £33pm less-two entirely different things.
Forget DD amounts. The only figure that matters is the annual cost.No free lunch, and no free laptop

As I understand it if you'd been with the other provider, it's quite likely that the exact same person would have made the meter reading and made the same mistake.
They are employees of the local distributor, not the provider.0 -
Anyone can reduce your direct debit - however if it doesn't cover your use then you'll end up racking up arrears and a huge bill.
You must read your meter regularly and check all your bills and make sure that they do accurately reflect your use and your payments. If they don't then phone the corrected information through otherwise you might find that your £33 a month DD saving becomes a £330 arrears next AprilNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
