Podiatry Rights

Hi there,

My wife recently signed up for a podiatry treatment scheme after pressure from a salesman face-to-face.

The price is £400. She didn't receive anything in terms of a receipt other than the credit card printout from the machine - no terms and conditions.

They have arranged an appointment in the near-future to begin treatment and have given her some standard insoles to wear until then. She hasn't worn them.

After looking up the company and advice from a friend, she does not want to continue with this company.

She's been trying to contact them for a refund but they are dodging her calls.

Legally speaking does she have any leg to stand on or is it 400 quid down the drain?

Where and when was the treatment agreed?
  • At her initial consultation, in person.

Edit - a week ago, although she's been asking for a refund since the day after paying.

    But the question was where?
In a shop or other business premises of the seller?
    On the street?
    In a shopping mall?
    In the home?

Ah, apologies - it was on the business premises of the company. She bought a groupon for a consultation with the company at their rented shared-office space and it was at this consultation she was sold the treatment plan.

No automatic rights to cancel then, unfortuanately.

Did she not think this was the point of the groupon deal?

Unfortunately not; although I pointed this out to her, she promised to get a second opinion elsewhere. Unfortunately she's easily sold something as she gets quite nervous around salesmen.

If you feel your wife was put under pressure or have any other concerns then you could make a complaint to HCPC

They may be able to help if the Chiropodist is registered.
