I recently had two boots soles repaired. One was a non slip sole glued over the existing leather sole. Nothing wrong with the original sole, it was just a bit slippy. It was not a re sole, just a glue on top. The second was a repair to a slightly worn heel. They glued a new heel covering over the existing one. Total cost was ...........£58!!! Same day, great service, but I think it may have been a bit overpriced, although I've also been quoted , by shoe spa,
a price of £83 for the same work. I'm not sure why very simple work like this can be almost as expensive than the original cost of the shoes?
  • Timpsons told me they could not put rubber heels on my shoes, only cheap synthetic ones which did not last long. Am now looking for a more traditional cobbler. The women's shoe market in this country is pretty poor these days, flooded with very cheap plastic-based imports. I buy shoes whenever I go to France or Spain because they are of high quality leather and well-fitting, as well as being more stylish. They are often not much more expensive than the shoddier versions sold in the UK. Problem I have now is finding shoe repairers who are up to the job...

I had my hiking boots resoled completely, which cost me €85. New boots would have cost me €150, so I'm good.

If I find comfortable shoes, I take good care of them, and will have them resoled/reheeled, because it is so rare that I actually find leather shoes that fit and that I like. To me, it's worth prolonging their life and not having to go shoe shopping!
