iPad 2 microphone help :(

I have had my iPad 2 for about 2/2.5 years now. And i noticed just after the warranty ran out last year that the microphone did not work. It's very 'fuzzy' and you cannot hear what is being said, say on skype, even if you shout! :mad:

I have been putting off getting it professionally repaired as I live in the country away from any city or town that has an apple retailer.

Is there aaaaany way I can repair my microphone without having to spend mega bucks?

I think it's been broken since I got it.

Any ideas?? Pleease?

And the most obvious question is do you have a case on it that might cover the mic? If you do have a case, take it off and see if that works.
