Oh my...if I'm reading what I see on Cunard's website right, it's even cheaper than that for the New York-Southampton (with flights to New York): £1,198 (£599pp) total for the balcony stateroom!

This is for departing NYC on 27/10/2013 and 8 nights returning Southampton 4/11/2013.

    Check it out...Crossing M326A.

    Seriously considering jumping on this!

You were happy with the price you paid in August, so just go and enjoy the cruise. Don't go on holiday with a chip on your shoulder about the price, you'll just spoil the holiday for yourself, and anybody else you chose to share your displeasure with.

This subject is a bone of contention among people who take cruising holidays, but the situation is quite simple really. Some people wish to book early, either because they cannot be flexible on dates, or sometimes because they want specific cabins in certain parts of the ship. For that you pay the 'normal' price, if there is such a thing.

Other people, like us, can travel at short notice, so we book a few weeks in advance. We monitor prices from when the brochures come out on all cruises we may be interested in, using a spreadsheet. We know from experience when the prices fall and what is likely to be the lowest price, which is when we book. As far as cabins are concerned, they are all the same to us.

As a result we cruise several times a year, usually paying half of what some others pay. We are off to the Med next month for 12 nights at £499pp, which is less than £42 a night. There are plenty of deals if you know how the system works, make the most of them!

Not too sure I would want to a Transalantic crossing that time of the year though.

Well it's better than crossing in January! :p

Anyway so much for dreaming about a cheap QM2 reunion, I can't get the time off work due to a big project I'm working on coming up.

Bloody hell...where are my boss's priorities not allowing me to skip out for this?

They have now dropped to £499 per transatlantic crossing with return flight. We have just booked a 'Roundtrip' crossing (sailing both ways) for £699. It is a harsh lesson with the cruise lines that it is never a good idea to book early I'm afraid.

It is a gamble with cruises, book early and get your choice of cruise, cabin deck/position, dining preference (if applicable) or wait and see what happens nearer the time with a potential saving and limited cabin choice (if any) or indeed no availability on the cruise of your choice
Not just cruises, to be fair, this can also happen with flights and package holidays.
This forum is regularly littered with people complaining about a drop in prices after they've booked.

Eastbound transatlantic, including flight to New York, departing 27th October now only £499 on Cunard website. This is £50 cheaper than my wife is paying for return air fare 4 days later!

500 return has been an offer most years on off dates.

problem is getting real cruise only if you can do cheap flights or your own return cruise.

OK stupid question--I went through the motions on Cunard's website for "Cruise with Flights & Transfers" and by the time I get to step seven where you pay...there's no mention of flights or transfers.

How does one go about sorting flights with the cruise? o.O
