Power cycling is more likely to kill your electrical equipment, so it'll be more expensive in the long run. Virtually everything I have at home that plugs into an electrical socket is relatively new and highly energy-efficient so the cost per year of leaving it in standby is negligible.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion!
