Stocks and Shares for Beginners?

Hi all,
New to this forum and really looking forward to hopefully getting some better information about saving lots of money! We all work hard enough for it!
I'm really interested in working with stocks and shares at the moment, and am wondering where the best place to start is?
I've been recommended Nutmeg, but hear that I can buy stocks and shares through the bank too; I'm currently with First Direct.
Has anyone got any advice where is best to start with all of this? Would be looking to start with about £200 to test the water!

I'd say you have a lot to learn before you start risking money on it.
Are you looking to invest short or long term
Growth or income (on £200 really can only go for growth as the shares that produce an income will not give you many shares or much income)
What is you risk profile high - medium - low?
I would recommend starting with one of the fantasy share dealing things where you don't invest real money but can learn and grow by mistakes and successes.
The costs of investing this level of money are prohibitive even the cheapest share dealing services will take about 5% of it in charges and some of the others 15%
There are regular share dealing schemes where you can get the cost on £200 down to about 2.5% or so and although it says regular you can actually invest one month then reduce the investment amount to 0 in months you do not want to invest in.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
I would start by setting up a jarvis x-o account and messing around with teh fantasy option. When you are ready to buy real shares it is a flat rate of £5.95 per transactionYNWA
Target: Mortgage free by 58.0 -
You could start by reading a couple of books about investing.

I'd suggest starting your own thread for this, mentioning the name of the company in the title....0 -

As others have said for specifics need company details but in general if the company has gone bust then yes that is the end of it one of the risks of investment that open you to the rewards.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0
