Are you with BT? Opt Out of Price Hikes or
    Automatically Pay Extra from Jan.

"BT has announced it will hit 10m home phone customers with higher line rental and raise call and broadband prices by twice the rate of inflation from January next year.

And in a move that could potentially trap millions, BT will 'opt in' users to paid-for services that were previously free so that customers will pay a new £1.75 monthly charge unless they contact the company to cancel."

"Previously free BT Answer 1571 and BT Privacy with Caller Display will now each cost £1.75 a month. Customers will be 'opted in' if they have ever used the services in the past.
    "

    And according to wakeupalarm:

Line rental will go up 85p per month to £15.45
Paying by cheque/cash will go up to £2.00
Daytime calls will go up from 7.95p to 8.41p
Call set up fee will go up from 13.1p to 13.87p
BT broadband will increase by £1.55 per month
BT Vision will see increase by £1.00 per month

    Hey all,

Quick one while I'm at work.

Thanks to bt1 for starting us off.

    My plan for today:

B/L/D from stores (dinner already in the slow cooker. Hope OH remembered to switch it on before he left!) - OH did not remember. Have put it on high in the vain hope that it will cook before bed time. Made stir fry from stores.

Charge phone in work - done

OH didn't leave enough time to make his lunch (day 1 of making his lunches...) told him to take his lunch from the proposed £10 lunch money.

Bit of overtime maybe. 2 hours in the bank

Reconcile weekend's spends on spreadsheet & email to myself for discussion with OH later - done

Find cheapest an most sensible method of transport for London trip later in the month and book tickets. - booked bus on the way back. Need to look at train later as national rail website experiencing intermittent problems.

Think more about keeping us warm and the heating bills down this winter. Sorry ally - I couldn't find the 10mm stuff on the Tesco website.

Can't think of much today. Brain freeze! Will add more later if it comes to me.

Have a good one all :)

  • I've just claimed tax relief on my professional fees and requested receipts for historic tax years from my professional body so I can claim for those too - up to 6 years I think. :T

Thanks for that info Ally - will let my mum know as she probably doesn't inspect her bill too closely.

We bought it last year in store, perhaps they no longer stock it...

    Hello Money-savers,
It doesn't feel like Monday as got back late from London last night & have been catching up with stuff I'd normally have done at the weekend.
    Small MS things today:
*Wrote quick meal plan for this week.
*Grocery shop came in under budget. Whoo-hooo! Have set October's grocery budget at £50 lower than usual, so pleased we got off to a good start.
*Yellow stickered pickling vinegar bought for stores.....chutney-making season not over yet!
*Bought shampoo & conditioner 3 for 2 in Boots (Hurray!) then found it on a better deal in Superdrug £1-97 each (Boooo!).....if anyone uses the 'Elvive' for coloured hair (red bottle), it's a good time to stock up.
*Withdrew cash for paying the rest of our 'Piggies' which didn't get paid on Fri (New budgeting system. I'm trialling it for a year to see if it works better for us. On paper it certainly looks like it should do).
*Updated budgets - weekend in London surprisingly cheap as stayed with family. Only bought coffees/cake for everyone as a thank-you & a small birthday present for a friend.
*Loaded washing machine for overnight wash on Economy 7 tariff.
*Packed summer clothes away. Went through winter clothes/socks/tights to remove anything in need of mending.
*Read energy meters. Interesting to see we used 11 units of night-time electricity last week, compared with 54 units for the same week last year. Obviously we cracked early last year & had put the heating on. Still no heating on yet this autumn. We said October at the earliest & as it's a warm day today, we're going to make it.
*Picked another bunch of grapes, courgette & leeks from garden.
*Sort through magazines - have been given such a lot, I shan't be tempted to buy any for a while.
    *Continue knitting Christmas present.
Hope everyone's ok & had a nice weekend.

LPP - I'd like to offer encouragement with the weight loss. My BMI was in the morbidly obese category in Jan 2011 when I started dieting. I'm not very tall, only 5 foot, 3 & a bit ins, so my joints were starting to hurt & I was getting worried about things like diabetes. Since then, I've lost over 6 stones. It hasn't always been easy, but neither has it been as hard as I thought it would be. It's nice gradually to fit in smaller sized clothes (I'm a size 16 now, whereas when I started my size 24 jeans wouldn't do up......in fact, they wouldn't even meet in the middle!) but it's good to feel healthier. I can walk for longer & actually enjoy it instead of moaning if it's more than a mile, my joints rarely hurt now, my Achilles tendon problems have disappeared, I'm a lot more flexible, I get way fewer headaches, virtually no IBS & all the sort of anxiety/insomnia/mood type issues have very much improved, probably because on a much healthier diet, my blood sugar is much more stable. I had been a failed dieter for all my adult life, I think this time, I just thought 'it's now or never' & went for it. Hope you get on well with SW, I've still got a couple of stones to lose & so I shall be rooting for you. I also notice the effect on my food stores when we're doing the diet properly as if I measure our portions properly, everything lasts longer! I'm afraid I'm a bit of a pig......& mr f is worse!! So best of luck with it & hope it goes well.
