My electric oven no longer works, the fan goes but does not heat, this happened already in 2007 (£80 for repair) and in 2009 (£92 for repair).
As we are going to change the kitchen in less than one year (I hope) it is not worth buying another cooker with oven, also because we don't yet know exactly what the new layout will be.
Alternatives to consider:
1 - repair current oven, cost probably over £100. High electric consumption, not always used to full capacity.
2 - buy a grand remoska, £129, low consumption, not sure how it performs to bake bread, cake etc
3 - table top mini oven, starting at £30 ish, but no idea if any good.
Am torn between the repair (OS sensible solution) and the Remoska that I always wanted. Not sure about mini oven as I don't know much about them in terms of performance, consumption etc...
Suggestions and opinions gratefully received, thank you!

Caterina....come va?
I have never used a Remoska so can't comment. I do have a mini oven that I bought in either Lidl or Aldi some time ago and I am pleased with it...cooks bread, sponge cakes etc nicely, I now only use big oven when I am filling it up.

Ciao Marie, tutto bene grazie e tu?
Thanks for the reply, am considering all options at the moment!
Just back from Alghero a couple of weeks ago! Are you planning any trip there? xxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Get a decent quality Mini-oven; mine has last years and I love it.0

No idea regarding the Remoska or mini oven, but you could also consider a halogen oven. Love mine and use it all the time, big oven rarely gets used unless it's going to be filled.0

Hi Caterina
Panasonic flat bed inverter comination oven... brilliant.
I've not had a full size oven for 20 years. I use a gas hob, small microwave and now the Panasonic Combi. I did have the Lidl mini ovens but they didn't last that long (about 5 years ).
I have been SO PLEASED with this oven, even the auto programmes have been useful. It will take a large chicken. Well worth it.
I'm not even tempted to buy a full sized oven.0 -
I have actually just sold my Remoska as I only used it twice in 2 years. I found it to be rather cumbersome as it takes up a lot of worksurface (I had the large Remoska). I also found the lid quite heavy and unwieldy when it was hot and it was difficult to find somewhere to put it down when I needed to stir contents, or add items etc. Having said that it could just be me as I do know someone who cooks in one most days so maybe I just never got used to it.0

Thank you all, in the end we decided on repair, just seems the most OS and eco way of doing things. However the idea of a smaller tabletop oven is staying with me for when we change the kitchen!
M.E. good to "see" you, how are you? We are having a mini OS meet in Blackheath this Friday, if you can make it look at the old Meet up thread.

You've decided now, so this is just to make you feel better (perhaps) I am a complete Remoska fan but if it is the only cooking method you have I think it would be a bit limited. It does do bread and cakes as well as roasts, chops, etc etc BUT if you also wanted, say potatoes and carrots to go with, then it might be a bit difficult to do those in any quantity at the same time. I LOVE mine, but do not use it for everything. And as has been said, the lid is big and hot when you take it off. If I had small people in the house I wouldn't use it as it has the potential to burn quite nastily. But as there are only two old folk here it suits us perfectly for chicken, chops, sausages, bread, scones, cakes casseroles etc etc0

how frustrating that your oven had broken we went thru very similar thought processes and always bought cheap replacements and regretted it - I think the repair is a good plan for now as you wont get a decent replacement for that price. That said we did buy a halogen oven at one stage and we use it often - it's great for roasting - yum!Blah0
