Caribbean- Tobago, Barbados or Antigua

  • March is expensive but a very good time tog o. Look out for special offers on Virgin Holidays and British Airways. Also consider where charter airlines fly. Monarch has a weekly flight to Tobago and Thomsons fly to Jamaica and Cuba. We have been To St Lucia and Jamaica both on an all inclusive basis which we enjoyed, but it was not cheap. We are looking at all inclusive (Minimum 3 star) deals to either Barbados or Antigua for 10 or 11 days in either February or March 2014 but prices seemed to have increased greatly over the past 12 months. We will keep our eyes open for special deals. Virgin sometime has a sale on the cost flights which greatly reduces the overall cost of the holidays.(that is how we booked St Lucia last year)
  • Cuba, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic always appears to be the cheaper options for All Inclusive Holidays. we been to Cuba and Havana is a "Must". Out of choice we fancy Antigua but the All Inclusive options semm much more expensive unless anyone knows any better. We are also taking a closer look at Jamaica but some of resorts like Ocho Rios and Negril would appear to be between a 90 minute and 2 hour journey from the Airport.
  • We went to Cuba last year and it very different but excellent. We also had a holiday in Barbados about 5 years ago and that was terrfiic. Our neighbours have been to Grenada (the Spice Island and raved about it, saying how friendly the locals were there) They have also been to the Dominican Republic but were rather disappointed, We are contemplating going to Jamaica this year as it looks cheaper than some of the other islands but are a little worried about the crime there, athough that might be more restricted to Kingston the capital. Otherwise we would consider taking our neighbours recommendation and going to Grenada. Any feedback/help on either of the above will be appreciated.

If you go to Jamaica and just stay in the hotel or go on organised tours you'll be absolutely fine. If you want to stay in Montego Bay and go round the town then get advice and assistance off the rep or hotel staff. Most of the time its using your common sense when your out and about. I didn't like the Dominican as much as the others but its personal choice I have friends who have been going twice a year for the last 20 years and wouldn't go anywhere else.

Have a look what the foreign office says about crime."Tobago there are high levels of violent crime"
  • Of the three islands you mentioned Barbados wins hands down every time for us.
Currently staying at The Club Barbados on a cracking deal from Tropical Sky.It's a great little resort on the West Coast next to Sandy Lane and can't fault it.
