Home Emergency Insurance

I currently have home emergency insurance with Homeserve. In the past I've called them out once or twice a year for leaks, blocked drains etc (which seems to be no problem - they even lower my premiums whenever I threaten to leave them).
But I'm thinking of taking out Home Assistance cover as part of my AXA home buildings and contents insurance instead.
My question is: if AXA arranged and paid for an emergency repair for a leaking pipe or blocked drain under Home Assistance, would that count as a claim on my home insurance - which would be recorded on the CUE database, and have to be declared to future home insurers for 5 years, etc?
(I'm assuming claims on my Homeserve Home Emergency Policy don't have to be declared to a Building and contents insurer.)

No it wouldn't, it's not part of your buildings/contents insurance.0

I decided to phone AXA to check - and they disagree with you.
They say that an emergency call out for a blocked drain or leaking pipe would be treated as claim on my Home Insurance policy, and it would be recorded on the CUE database.
So I might have 5 years of increased premiums - for having a leaking pipe fixed. Seems like a good reason to stay with Homeserve.0 -

CUE is a separate matter and I would expect Axa to log it there, as HomeServe may well.
If you speak to an insurer, or even look at the options on the drop downs when declaring a home insurance claim, to get a quote they typically dont count claims on any of the optional extras such as Legal Expenses, Travel or Home Emergencies.
I have made an LE claim in the past and only the NFU were bothered about it and referred to underwriting when trying to get new quotes at renewal.0 -
Homeserve do (or at least did) the Home Emergency insurance for AXA0

It would be unusual that a claim on a separate home emergency policy (that you have opted to pay extra for) would affect your b&c ncd.
There are policies that include a limited amount of home emergency cover as standard eg MoreThan (£200) and if you claim on this it would affect the ncd.
AXA seem to underwrite the home emergency cover through Interpartner which is part of the same AXA group so maybe this is why they would record claims.
Before you decide make sure that the cover is adequate. Some policies only cover "complete" failure and may only carry out temporary repairs.0 -
i have this cover through First direct which is underwritten by Aviva and i have used it 3 years running and i have never lost my NCD (not protected) I would look elsewhere - mine is £48 per annum for the home emergency cover and is a very good addon to my policy1
