Just come back from Dublin...

Hi,
I have just come back from Dublin and ..... is it expensive or what !!! .....
Drinks and Food even fast food were costly. Temple Bar area was even more expensive.
We tried to cut costs for example buying whiskey from Tescos and even there a 70cl bottle of Famous Grouse cost 24euros (£17.50) compared to approx £10 here.
For all you 1 penny trippers that are still scheduled to go, I would advise you to shop around and do some research before you go.
I don't want to put anybody off but I just felt I needed to moan. On saying that if you drive out of South of Dublin along the coast there are some beautiful sites to see and generally the costs are slightly lower.
Also watch out for the european beggars.. there are loads of them begging for money. One tried to sell us a ring for 100euros claiming it is pure gold. When I told her that I am a jeweller and that the ring is not gold but brass she grabbed the ring and ran off.
Anyway.. hope this helps

I am going on my 1p flight next month.:)
Went last year, and yea, expensive or what - I decided to live off sanwhiches from Spa, and even they weren't cheap.
Thanks for the info.0 -
I found hotels expensive in Dublin when I went quite a few years ago. I found Paris cheaper.
I went for the day a few weeks ago. I did buy some clothes thats about it. I never had a beer there or anything.
Its cheaper in the sticks.0 -
I've been to Dublin a couple of times, and it was getting more expensive then. People tell me now how expensive it has got as they cash in on the tourist boom. Ireland must be one of the most expensive cities in Europe!
The good news is that there are loads of other cities around Europe that are cheap to get to nowadays, and where the costs when you get there make them very attractive to the weekend tourist. In the last year alone we have been to Prague, Oporto, Santiago de Compostela and Valencia. I have several other ideas for venues in the next year or so.0 -

If you want cheap, Marrakech is fantastic! xGone ... or have I?0 -
Dublin is very pricey.
When I'm working in Central London I have no problems paying £4 for a sandwich. But on holiday we were charged Eur 7 for a sandwich in Dublin! But I think VAT is higher in Eire. The man without a signature.0 -
I dont see whats so great about Dublin, I used to live there and dont see whats so special anymore. The whole of Southern Ireland is expensive! No wonder the Celtic tiger is booming

It's called Rip Off Ireland.
A country consumed by greed and the salacious pursuit of wealth at all costs.
And there's greater urgency now as fear creeps into the national psyche - they have the highest borrowing per capita in Europe, double the average inflation,an economy based on a 10 year housing boom and very little else and signs that the whole pack of cards could come tumbling down at any time.
Mind you - they still have great pubs.0 -

Dublin is the most expensive city in Ireland, however, Ireland is not the most expensive country within Europe.
I do advise shopping around - especially if you're bringing goodies back with you. Do a bit of planning and research on any activities that you're doing, and look out for special deals on things.0 -
we are going on our 2 day Dublin trip at end of july
