Unauthorised transaction. What do I do ?

A company I had a run in with due to receiving items for free when I went to pay for them on their website (no codes or vouchers used) paid what their site told me (had also purchased other items).

Cut a long story short, they had honoured that contract, I paid for items and also received the free items. Turned out to be a glitch on their site and they wanted pymt for it. ( CAB and Trading Standards stated there was nothing incorrect done and by the company sending items ) contract honoured.

Fast forward...They have now taken money from my account (unauthorised) Where do I stand ?

As....They must have held onto my card details inc 3 digit security code.
And..I have no O/S bill ( have it in black and white all items to pay for and paid)

Who do I speak to ? The bank ? trading standards ???

  • Contact your bank and advise them that there has been an unauthorised transaction on your account -ask for them to do a chargeback.

Also tell the bank that if the trader has set up a continuous payment authority for your account that you want it cancelled as you didn't consent to it.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

    Edit, reading it wrong.
I see what happened now, you took advantage of a mistake and the contract was completed and you got items that were mistakenly priced free.

Legally the contract is complete but because they still had the last 3 digits a charge back will fail because you gave them the details.

You can try the bank but it looks like it may very well be a civil matter for the smalls claims court.

Tbh you got what you deserved, it may be a money saving site but it's not a take advantage of other peoples mistakes site.

This seems to be the continuation of this saga:

Regardless...A CPA was never authorised or mentioned and an unauthorised pymt has been taken. I am simply seeking info on what to do next ?
  • Ah, this one. Oh well.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Post #2 has the answer to that.

Thanking you and I did appreciate the advice in Post 2, but the following post then contradicted that. Therefore I was simply seeking clarification on said subject with regard to an unauthorised transaction. Nothing more, nothing less.
