Can I claim for mould/water damage from next doors leak?

My next door neighbour has had a leaking downstairs toilet for a while and not noticed. She has just let me know and when I checked our ajoining walls (our toilet and under the stairs cupboard) the water has come through, causing damage to the floor, wet and mould on all the shoes and flooring ruined.
I have had to bag it all up (taken pics) and put it all outside.

The house is housing association so the damp and brickwork will be taken care of by them, I just need the contents replacing.


Can I claim for this on the insurance, I am with Direct line?
(I dont want to claim and them say no, because I have heard that is still treated as a claim.) Thanks

If you have AD and if it was not blindly obvious they be able to help, but you will need to keep the damaged items somewhere they will not the damaged further and to hand so they can be inspected if needed (i.e not thrown away!)

Hi there, you don't actually need AD cover. The standard Escape of Water peril will cover this for you....it doesn't matter that the escaping water actually came from next door.

Just to avoid the inevitable complaint later, this will count as a claim on your policy and will be reflected in your claims history/ ncd and premiums going forward

Depends on the policy wording, if its caused by say a failed bath seal or grout next door it may not be covered under escape of water.
