Error in mortgage PPI application

However, out of the blue, I’ve just been sent a PPI consumer questionnaire by the company responsible for selling me the PPI giving the account number for my last mortgage top-up taken out in 2006 (but ignoring the other two). It specifically references the fact that this was PPI for a mortgage and goes on to say that in response to the FCA’s regulatory measures they have reviewed their sales and identified certain problems. They state that this means I may have been mis-sold PPI. The problems relate to the fact I should have been told the PPI was optional and that my lender was not providing advice about the product’s suitability.
Is it part of the new regulations that policy issuers are required to contact old clients? Obviously, this letter doesn’t guarantee my claim would succeed, but it seems odd to me that the banks are actively seeking new claims!
Hi, members of my family have received these letters and made successful complaints.
You haven’t said what type of insurance policy you had on your re mortgage in 2006. Do you have the paper work for the arranging of this top up? You haven’t mentioned who your loan provider was-perhaps it’s worth phoning their PPI Customer Concerns team to ascertain the actual insurance you had? Does the paperwork for your loan show the cost of PPI included in your statements? Was it a single premium policy which has a single upfront premium?
As they state the PPI was sold on a non-advised basis, they are asking whether you were given information that was clear, fair and not misleading in order to put you in a position where you could make an informed choice about the insurance you were buying. Your recollections of the phone call are then significant.
The complaint form that you received with your letter should have the appropriate sections (other grounds for complaint) for your other reasons?
I would also enclose copies of paperwork relevant to this loan arrangement.
Hope this helps.0 -

If I had not made my own complaint I would also have received such a letter by now-but it would not in any way increase my chances of a successful complaint!0 -

I am not exactly sure of the point you are trying to make. I too have made several successful complaints without receiving a CCL letter.
I do not think my post in any way suggested that receiving a CCL increased chances of a successful complaint.0 -

The OP had already given up on his "complaint" last September, based largely on the advice received in this thread, but the CCL letter has given him renewed enthusiasm for the same (weak) complaint which you are encouraging him to pursue.
The fact remains that the vast majority of mortgage PPI complaints are rejected, especially those relying on reasons more suited to loan and credit card PPI.0 -

We are both entitled to our own opinion.
I have however not judged the reasons for complaint to be weak or otherwise. This is to be decided by the lender following a complaint handling procedure in line with the FCA guidelines.
Please refer to where I was 'encouraging to pursue' ????? The OP been invited to respond to the letter. I am sure they are able to make up their own mind as to whether they will respond.
If you interpret what you have said to me-
People should act on advice given on forums?
They should then ignore CCLs ?
Any help as to making a complaint after receiving a CCL is deemed as encouraging a weak complaint because you think it is weak?
If that is the case, we could do away with the whole PPI complaint procedure and ask the anonymous contributors on this forum to decide if we had a successful complaint. It would save ££££££££££.
I know who I would prefer to decide. You obviously did.0 -
