Any known issues with the Mk3 Mondeo Auto gearbox?

Posting out of curiosity but fancy a Mk3 Mondeo but with an auto box trans for the long motorway miles I seem to do these days.
Any particular known issues to look out for on say 02-04 plates?
Are these a sealed unit box or is an oil change and service likely on these.

Looking around the net there does not seem too much to go by.

They have two sensors on the box, that can age and cause most trouble, they need to be changed as a pair first sign of trouble, but once done, they are about as solid as any auto box gets, probably due to it been the same box used in millions of American fords.
Old school cable kickdown around that era, so very little to go wrong compared to the electronic servo pump boxes.

Only the British are "stick shift" mad.

Dont suppose you know if these sensors are an expensive fix when they do need replacing?

There are 2 gearboxes in the range the older CD4E 4 speed and the Jatco 5 speed usually with manual option and steering wheel buttons.

The older box is not as robust, But appears better than the MK2 Mondeo boxes.

Although most people treat them as sealed for life, They are not and will benefit from oil changes every 30,000 miles or so.

No dipstick on the later one so you need to get under the car to check the level and you need an accurate temperature measurement also.

Best to let a specialist change the oil and check the level.
