i'm not sure if this is in the right thread so move it if needs be.
Last saturday i purchased a car from an auction for a pretty large sum of money,i paid by debit card and it all went through fine with no problems as i had suffecent funds in that account.
this week i noticed that the money had been set aside in my account so the balance was £24,000 ish but only a certain amount of this was available which is normally the procedure right?as the transaction hadn't completed yet.
so later on this week i check my account again and it's all still in there and all of it is available to spend.what has happened here?has something gone wrong there end and they will be in contact?
cheers Dale

For one reason or another, the merchant is slow in putting the charge through.
Once a transaction got sanctioned, the amount in question is 'earmarked' and no longer available to spend. But after a week or so, if the money hasn't been called-in, the earmarking drops off and the money is 'available' again.
The purchase can (and almost certainly will) go through your account any day. Just sit tight, don't spend the money and enjoy the fact that the cash still earns (a little) interest for you.0 -
