I was worried that I might leave myself open to accusations of altering a tax disc which I suppose is a legal document?

And you probably would, so it was bad advice to suggest that you do that.

Contact the DVLA and tell them the problem. They should have records to say what should be on the tax disc, and should be able to send you a replacement.

    Depends on the local authority

IIRC In Bournemouth, a blue badge on it's own only means you can park in the disabled bays, you need to have a disabled tax-disc in order to get free parking

This is exactly the situation with my LA.
I have to go to DVLA Office today about something else, so will kill two birds with one stone and ask them about it.

Thanks for the help. Will come back and update about what they ay in case it helps someone else.

I can't remember which local authority has no free parking at all for blue-badge/disabled.

Denbighshire, North Wales operate this system

Liverpool Royal Hospital isn't free - it has disabled bays, but you still have to pay.
  • I think you have to pay at most Hospitals, disabled badge or not.

I went to the local DVLA Office today and got a replacement disc for free. It did mean my car was parked for a while with no tax disc in it (just a note saying it was being queried at the DVLA Office) and that was scary stuff!

Also Hampshire hospitals are free if you display a badge.

Although they also think they can issue penalties and clamp (seriously what is the point of clamping a vehicle if it parks in the ambulance drop-off bay, the best way is to get it moved out of the way)
