ParEye charge paid, can I recover

Also could someone explain to me how it is I can just ignore an invoice from a private company, if I do indeed enter a car park and stay longer than my allotted time.
You would not have been told to ignore it now anyway.
Not only did you pay before reading up on it, but when you read up on it you must have read OLD advice if you then thought you should have ignored it.
All you needed to do was look at the current threads instead of just reading whatever random thread you found when Googling it. The main forum of current threads is always just one click away when you find a random forum thread by Googling. Never just read the one you find, especially if it's months/years old!
See my signature which explains the breadcrumb trail link to click, off this thread and onto page one. Always do that when you land on an old forum thread, follow the breadcrumb trail link to page one. Do that now and you'll learn what you should have learnt 48 hours ago before you got your credit card out.
If this had been a Supermarket car park I would have told you to complain to them to insist on a refund - but a 'round the back of a pub' car park doesn't sound like there's any scope for complaining to anyone who would care. So you'll have to call it a lesson learned.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Let's see if we can cut through the previous comments and accept that you acted too quickly, without advice and just possibly wasted £60. Ok, you are young and inexperienced. So were we once, although it's easy to forget that.
First of all, the chargeback. Go for it and see if you can get it back as advised. It will take a few days to go through if it can be done. If it is too late, game over, I am afraid.
If you do get it back, then you are on an equal footing with most new threads on here. You will have a Private Parking charge and you want to know what to do.
Well, there are hundreds of threads on here already advising people in that position, all in various stages of development.
What you need to know is that Parking Eye are the most litigious and if you ignore them, then it is odds on they will take out court papers and you don't want that, do you?
So, when they write to you as registered keeper, you need to appeal to them to cancel.
They won't, but your appeal letter will have asked for a POPLA code which you will get (eventually!).
We help you with a POPLA appeal, and you win there.
But you asked how you could not have to pay a private invoice? Well, go and look at the stickies at the top of the forum and the thread POLA Decisions, just the last 3 or 4 pages will do.
You see, the charges that these PPCs are trying to hit you with are simply penalties, way beyond any reasonable amount. That's why we fight them and at present, we are winning.
So, on to the bank first thing, get your chargeback in motion, and when the money is back in your account, wait for Parking Eye's letter and come back here.

Cheers Coupon-mad I'll follow that breadcrumb trail. Some of the threads I'd seen saying to just ignore their letters were from around July 2013 if I recall, which is quite recent. However you're quite right a few other ones from the past month suggest that the "ignore it" method is no longer viable.<Space saving snip - See the post directly above>
That's brilliant thanks Guys Dad, particularly "If you do get it back, then you are on an equal footing with most new threads on here." which was my main worry if the chargeback actually worked!
I'll still wait to see what this 'Diana' says too though, but will likely proceed with the chargeback and let you guys know what the result is. Hopefully RBS will accept it, and I can proceed from there.
Just to check though I was going to cite these two reasons as the main reasons to request a chargeback, could you let me know if they're accurate and/or are actually valid please:
1. It was a parking charge that I was not required by law to pay, despite being presented as such. If they feel it necessary they could pursue me in court for payment, but the amount they would be deemed to have lost as a result of my short (relatively) overtime parking would be far less than that set price of £60.
2. Payment was made under duress, particularly as a result of the promised reduced charge for quick payment.0 -
Hey guys,
Was a bit too busy today to find time to discuss organising a chargeback, will do it tomorrow with RBS.
Still wondering though if those two points I said above are factually accurate reasons to cite to my bank to get a chargeback. I'd hate to declare that I'm not legally obliged to pay and find myself wrong + !!!!ing off a bank too, though what I've seen on here/the threads I've been directed to suggest this is the case.0 -

If you were too busy, then why do you think we are not too busy as well?
Why don't you read up on chargeback on the web and see what it says to set your mind at rest? I just have the feeling that you are on a path to losing this and it is frustrating to people who want to help to see dithering in progress.
It's your call, your money, your priorities. You have had comment, advice and all we really can do to help.

I personally think you don't have a case for a chargeback but it's worth a try. You can only chargeback if you did not get the 'service' you paid for (mainly) and in this situation that's hard to argue as you paid this willingly.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Sorry.
Sorry, I had my last day on Monday, and first day of a new job on Tuesday, which was all a lot more hectic than I'd anticipated. Hence the busyness and inability to discuss the matter with RBS. Wasn't trying to imply you weren't busy or what not.
Anyway seeing as how the general concensus is not to bother with the chargeback and to stop dithering (I wasn't aware I was, just trying to get an answer to my queries before I possibly get myself in bigger trouble with the law) I'll let it go as advised. Thank you for the helpful comments!0
