HELP - we've been told no from mini car credit and lloyds

Options
My partner (originally the only signatory) is a civil servant and was told she couldnt have the mortgage and car without critical insurance even though the forms specifically note she is a civil servant where she gets 18months sick pay anyway.

I have tried the initial letters which the response has been to contact the mini garage as they sold it prior to 1996 and the lloyds mortgage was sold by a 3rd party (arent most finance products nowadays sold by a 3rd party).

are there (dare i say it) - recommended ppi companies who can just do what we dont have the energy for (we have a 1 year old who cant sleep) so any extra stress isnt welcomed.

I am grieved at my family being taken for a ride as most are nowadays. any thoughts/recommendations as the PPI payments on the mortgage are £60ppm and have been for the last several years (the mini is all paid for) so potentially we have paid over £7000 on mortgage alone) as its being paid for 15 years now from 3 other companies.

Comments

  • The responses look to be correct - you need to complain to whoever sold the PPI, which from the info you've provided looks not to be Lloyds or Mini Car Credit.

A Claims Management company won't be able to get any different result - they use the same complaints process you have but will charge you for the privilege.

Yes. However, sales by third parties have much lower mis-sale stats and the uphold rate is much lower.

    No.

Critical illness cover is not PPI. It does not overlap with 12 months sickpay (most civil servants get 6 months full, 6 months half pay. 18 months is not one I have come across before). So, putting a PPI complaint in on a non PPI product and using PPI reasons was pretty much destined for failure from the start.

The dealer on a 1996 case is 9 years prior to regulation.

But surely that was the purpose of buying a mini?

Your PPI payments on the mortgage, as already mentioned, don't overlap with sick pay.
If one of you were to contract a disease, and be unable to work, would the other be able to pay the mortgage by themselves? Or if one of you were to die, would the other be able to pay the mortgage?

Before you cancel it, have a look to see exactly what it covers. Life insurance etc, is a ncessary thing for most people.

I don't see a problem in a company requesting that you take proper precautions to protect the money they are lending to you. 18 months is no time at all and I say that from the experience of a friend who took a stroke at 24 and was unable to work for two years. Luckily he had the common sense to protect his income. His house is now bought and paid for.
