LVT Flooring cutting and drilling advice

Hi,

I am looking to change the carpet in our bathroom to LVT flooring. The one that I'm looking at is called Emporium Clic Contemporary Flagstone made by Lifestyle Floors. It's 4mm thick and uses the Uniclic locking system.

I know that with doing straight cuts I can use a utility knife to score and bend the vinyl. Can I do the same with curved cuts or would I need to use a jigsaw? Another problem are the holes for the radiator pipes. Can a drill be used to make the holes? I keep picturing that the use of the jigsaw and/or drill will melt the vinyl.

As a laminate floor fitter, I understand that an expansion gap of 10mm is to be left between wall and floor. Does this apply to the vinyl flooring and if so, do I need to have a gap of 10mm? There are currently no skirting boards in the bathroom, so I can fit these after the flooring is down.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, especially from those that regularly install this type of flooring. Thanks in advance.

If their Warranty Conditions are anything like Amtico you'd best get it professionally fitted by someone who has done the "how to" course. Or branch out - do the course and add this stuff to your skillset.

  • Thanks keystone. I've just requested some sample boards from the manufacturers and once I've received it I'll be doing some testing on it with the drill and jigsaw.
