Yet more proof that motorway matrix signs are frequently wrong

For clarification. My OP was intended as a joke. I'm well aware of what the sign meant.
It's not actually a legal maximum, just an advisory, and for the record there were actually zero pedestrians, it just went straight to End with no danger on the motorway at all.
I saw this blog post from a police officer (traffic) recently, it goes into detail about the protocols for dealing with pedestrians, among other issues.
Not strictly relevant but to your thread, but may be interesting to some:

I read that drunk driving was the cause of 15% of accidents....I also like the signs that say, for example, "3 accidents in 5 years". Is it just me, or do you also think something like, "OK. That sounds like good odds"?
So I decided I should drive drunk and have a 15% chance of an accident rather than drive sober and have an 85% chance of an accident.0 -
Driving north up the A3 a few weeks ago we approached the Hindhead Tunnel to see the matrix signs showing:So yesterday morning I was driving down the M4 from Wales towards London, and one of the matrix signs was flashing away, warning me:50
PEDESTRIANS
IN ROADObviously I proceeded with caution, and eventually came to the conclusion that this was a complete lie.
There were only two pedestrians!
"Left lane closed, pedestrians in tunnel, 50mph".
The limit is normally 70mph on the two lane north and two lane southbound tunnels.
Traffic cones enforced the closure of the left lane from 100 yards or so before the tunnel and all the way through it until about 150 yards beyond.
There was no sign of pedestrians in the tunnel but there was a police car and a broken down van with about 6 men standing around on the left hand side verge of the road about 100 yards beyond the tunnel exit.
It was probably a sensible decision to limit traffic to one lane from before the tunnel rather than do it inside the tunnel.
Maybe the van had originally broken down inside the tunnel and had been moved before we arrived on the scene.0 -

Certianly made a change from Patrick Stewart/Captain Picard!
Well, yeah, that's getting a bit overused. Besides you're talking to someone who runs a blog of mostly cat pictures and rave music, of course I'm going to use a kitten variant if one is available!0 -

Don't mess with the moggies!
