Scrap or Replace Engine?
I have an 04 Vauxhall Corsa Automatic. It had less than 30,000 miles then the timing chain broke. Mechanic has told me a new engine will be around £1400 - £1500 (for engine and labour). Didn't expect it to be that much.
I've invested in the car a lot over the past few years to keep it well maintained - new tyres, breaks just done, bodywork light scratch repairs and replacement headlights and internal parts.
How much could I expect to get if I scrapped the car or sold it for salvage? Or is it worth replacing the engine?

you can probably get a second hand engine for £200 but it'll have more miles on than the 30k, and looking at a couple of hundred quid to have it fitted as well.
But for an 04 automatic Corsa with a knackered engine...... earlier this year me and a mate would pick up Corsa's for around £300 on 02 plates, with blown head gaskets to repair and sell on. So needing a new engine you're probably looking about the same.
Have a look on eBay for "Corsa spares or repair" to get a ball park figure of what it's worth0 -
If its got the fully allfull triptonic auto box (its a ticking time bomb before it breaks) I would think its time to scrap/sell on with broken engine, have look and see how much another would cost you. Your not going to get one with such a low mileage, but its your low mileage on the current one thats caused your current problem, look for one with a decent service history, but stay way from that allfull auto

Not much sadly. You'd be better off buying a replacement engine and fitting it yourself if you know how. Failing that, get a friend to do it.
Failing that, stick it on ebay with an honest description and the BIN price you want with offers.
If it were me and I loved the car that much I'd just repair it and carry on using it. I have one on the drive now thats cost £stupid so far and it's still dead but I WILL drive it again one day - I'm not going to be beaten.0 -
Must admit that price is on the high side.
Unless you went to a main dealer then it is on the low side!
I would probably sell it as a non runner and buy something newer.
Likely an Automatic Astra 5dr, 05 onwards shape with the 1.8 petrol engine.0 -
Sorted an 04 corsa out with a second hand engine, new chain kit and service all for £450, you are getting ripped off so shop around.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
