    No, they did not.
The conclusions based on what customer *did* not what they *said*.
They could hardly rate the bank's security processes without having a customer of each bank login and do some transactions, could they.

OK, so they drew conclusions from what one customer per bank did. That would be a very valid thing to do if all users always did the same to achieve a given task. Which, of course, they don't.

E.g. I never log into my Nationwide online banking with the card reader. I actually also never type anything myself at all logging into Nationwide online (I'll leave you to figure out how I achieve that), though most people would probably log in manually. Other users might always use their card readers, or they might use it sometimes. So there we have 4 different possible behaviours for the same task, logging into Nationwide online banking. And that is just for logging in from the PC, not from a mobile device.

Thus the Which? "research" is based on an amateur approach and basically not credible.
  • In terms of banking mobilility (and I have a few accounts) by far the best for me is Santander. I'll explain - To setup a new payment you input a code received by text most other accounts use a seperate or third party card reader so your going to struggle unless you carry that reader around with you. The Barclays and Santander app offer options without the card reader. However for security the santander app will text you imediately when a non standard payment leaves your account (based on your alerts) Barclays takes 24hrs. Also Santander you can go back more than a month of transaction son their mobile app some restrict you to a mini statement or a months worth of transactions. if your with smile you probably have the worst online and mobile app available (I know I have a cooperative account) IMO LLoyds and Halifax banking apps are infantile in comparison and need an overhaul considering they are major players

So you've told us all your opinions about 'Which' - but have you actually got any positive advice for the OP?
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

None over and above the personal experiences people have already posted. From my own experience, I mainly agree with the posters' conclusions. I just couldn't see much sense / logic in the Which? report on bank security. Could you?
