Student account eligibility HELP!

I have a Halifax Easycash account with Visa Electron card at the moment. I'm going to University for second time in September.

First time I went to Uni, I had a student account with Lloyds TSB with a £1500 overdraft. I left Uni and that account was closed and I am paying back the overdraft at the moment. My credit hasn't been the best hence my basic bank account with Halifax.

Will I be eligible for a student account wi the Halifax, or do they run credit checks?

  • I am sure you would be eligible for a student account but they may not offer a debit card, merely a cash card.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

I believe that they will run a credit check (LTSB certainly will) and this will probably show your debt.
I do not think that Halifax will give you a Student account and if they do I don't think you will get the free overdraft so what would be the point?

Halifax's student account is credit scored. it comes with Visa debit card ( the easycash has electron)

how has your conduct been with your easy cash as some of these get considered for upgrades (new current accounts/new student accounts) based on how you use it

i'd try a different student account than your one with the halifax - lots of people don't get one, and those that do find it very hard to get the full interest free overdraft approved (there have been quite a few threads on the student board about it this year anyway!)
