Roller blind recess fitting brackets

My new blind has come and it has the universal recess brackets for top mount or side mount fitment.
I don't want to screw the mounts into the window frame (but this way the blind sits tighter to the top) and fitting the brackets from the top it leaves a big gap which lets light in.
Brackets are l-shaped and ideally was looking to fit them away from the window a bit.
Any suggestions or do they do a more low profile type bracket i could hang them from the top from?

Sometimes fitting these things can be a real pain.
A steel lintel above the window can make top mounting unworkable. (Even a concrete lintel will have steel reinforcement and it is possible to hit that with your drill bit).
Side fitting can be problematical if you have cavity walls and the cavity has not been closed securely with bricks/blocks.
I would guess that the brackets are custom-built and it will be difficult to get an alternative type, maybe contacting the manufacturer will get a result.
Before attempting to get different brackets for top mounting, suggest that you check if you have a steel lintel above the window.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Thanks, i have decided to side mount as it sits so much better, showed a couple of friends and they both agreed the l-part wasn't visible behind blind so have fitted it as is.0
