I would appreciate any help, my brother recently died leaving a mortgaged house, Credit card debts and no Will, First question is :-
Is there anywhere i can search for a will, He was in the forces and i believe they have to make one before signing up, i have called every solictor in the town that he lived in but no luck, i have applied for probate and had the interview etc but i think something may have cropped up, which leads me onto my second question.....
a few months before he died he had retired from the Forces and met a "girl" i use the term loosly as she's the local bike that evey one had told him to stay clear of as she was only after his retirement fund, anyway i have found out today that he has signed over his forces lump sum on death pension to her just a few months before he died, its a very lot of money and would have cleared his mortgage and debts...is there anything i can do ??, can i give her the o\s credit card bills ?, can i contest it ?
sorry for all the questions, but i could really do with a bit of advice

No advice but some of the other lovely people on here will come along soon , just wanted to wish you the best of luck with this and sorry about your loss"Have you ever noticed that if you rearranged the letters in mother in law, they come out to Woman Hitler?":p

If money doesn't grow on trees then why do banks have branches?:D
Can you breathe out of your nose and mouth at the same time?
Why don't the hairs on your arms get split ends?:mad:0 -
Hi
Sorry about your loss. Your brothers debts/outstanding mortgage etc will be paid out of any estate he leaves and if the estate doesn't clear everything then the rest of the debt should die with him, no one else would be liable. If any of the debts are joint with the girl then she will be liable but I think if he's signed the death in service to her then she will get it tbh. But I would seek legal advice - but be aware contesting things could get expensive.Grocery challenge July £250

If I have read this correctly, then he had left the service, hence did not `die in service`. This may make a difference, but the terms of his pension will need to be checked.0

Just re-read the original post. I had got it wrong. Please accept my apologies.0

Particularly with regard to the whereabouts of the will.....could the Royal British Legion possibly help you to trace it's whereabouts? Also, could they offer any help at all regarding this tart's claim on your brother's estate?
I also am so sorry to learn of your sad loss.:snow_grin"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow........":snow_grin0 -

Tart? That’s offensive. You don’t know the woman, and it appears the bloke in question (who did know her) thought enough of her to gift her some money.
To the OP: As far as I remember a special short will was done before you went anywhere people were likely to be shooting at you, I think they were encouraged rather than compulsory, and I think the army kept them.
Might be worth contacting his regimental welfare officer to see if he can help clear things up0
