Help with screws, plugs and drill bits

I've bought a wall mount for my xbox and my tv. The Xbox mount came with wall plugs which say 10x50mm and I would have thought to use a 10mm drill bit but instructions say to use 8mm?
The TV mount didn't come with any wall plugs, the screws are 7mm wide so what size plugs do I need?
Thanks

Start with a 8mm bit and see it fits. You can always make the holes bigger if you need to.
It is solid wall and not plasterboard?0 -
Yeah definately solid wall. I've already drilled one hole but only got half way. I later found I wasn't using a masonry drill bit so borrowing some tomorrow.
I'll start off with an 8mm then.
I did buy some brown 7mm wall plugs before I measured the screw and they are too small, the 10mm are too big so I must need 8mm plugs I think. Can I cut down a wall plug if it is too long? I know the screw should poke out the end.0 -
Wilkos sell some wallplugs which have a suitable masonry bit with them

Thanks, might go to town tomorrow and get some.
"Suitable for screw sizes 8, 10, & 12."
Any idea the width of those screw sizes? Mine are 7mm
