New PC Recommendations

Hi, looking to get a new PC soon and would like some advice.
The PC will be used for usual home use type things, office applications but also some gaming. It doesn't need to be high end from a speed/gfx point of view but something half decent would be nice.
I've got a budget of up to £500, I'm keeping the existing monitor so that's not part of the requirements.
It will need to be Windows however, is Win 7 or Win 8 the best?
I'd like it to have SSD memory for the O/S from a speed point of view (I believe 60 GB would be enough for that) and probably 8 GB of RAM although less might be an option. I'd like something fairly future proof so it will last 4 years or so.
SATA HD with 1 TB ideally.
Recommendations please!
Needs to be a desktop.
Thanks.

Sorry what games do you plan to play or are playing at minute?
Will you be doing any photo/video editing?
gives me a better idea of what you want, may need in a desktop PC.

I used to play the Total War series, so a reasonable gfx card would be nice but not a necessity as I may not have time to play games in future.
No photo/video editing, but I do build websites, however that's not too intensive as I use Notepad + for that.
I want something quick that will be "future proof" for a few years and is good value for money.
For example this looks good but it's an AMD processor and I believe Intel are generally rated as being better at the moment, is that right?

Have you ever considered building your own?
Works out cheaper and you can choose exactly what you need.
If not, something like this maybe? http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTCONFIGPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=950548
Core i3-3220 Dual Core Processor (3.30GHZ, 3M Cache), 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, Windows 8 64bit, integrated graphics, 120GB SSD (you need to add this when customising the system) for £489.What will your verse be?

Yeah I built my last 3 PCs but I'm a bit out of the loop now and don't really have the time. Plus the savings seem to be less than they were.
That Mesh deal looks pretty good though, thanks.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -

But the mesh deal don't have video card & didn't say what psu putting in. It would be better to build your own.0 -
