Tax disc, what does the letter after the numberplate mean?

What does that letter mean? signify?
is there a list of all the letters used, and what they mean ?

Check digit is just a term used for any alphanumeric character derived from others by way of an algorithm. It's there to counter counterfeiting. A counterfeiter without the algorithm couldn't know what character to put there. And so someone running the reg no through a program that calculates the check digit can check the authenticity of the tax disc.0 -
the last number/character in a Vat number does the same job
