Can I return these shoes??

On 2nd September 2013, I bought my son a pair of school shoes from Debenhams (mens shoes). He wore them from the 5th September. A few days ago, I noticed that there were holes in the bottom of them (not small holes either) - the heel is almost completely worn through

So, he has only worn them for 18 days in total. He does walk a few miles a day, but they shouldn't have worn out already. The shoes were in the sale when we bought them - they were £30 instead of £60. I'm glad we didn't pay full price.

The question is, would I be able to return them? I can't find the receipt, but I know I haven't shredded it as my shredder is broken - so it must be around somewhere. I paid with my credit card, so I guess I could take in my credit card statement (but that isn't due for a couple of weeks).

What should I do?

Thanks in advance.

It depends what the shoes were sold as, if they were sold as occasional wear then walking a few miles a day is not what they are designed for.

If they were sold as school/work shoes they should last a lot longer with the use they have had.

Contact Debenhams first, they may say no receipt is fine or tell you to hold on until you have your statement as a proof of purchase. You can probably contact then online or over the phone if the shop is out of your way.
  • Thank you. I will give Debenhams a call tomorrow.

They weren't 'fancy' shoes - they were 'boring' black ones with a chunky sole - called 'comfort shoes' or something like that. They look(ed) like the kind of shoe you would expect to get a reasonable amount of mileage out of.
