FAO Closed re: Macrium

Firstly of course, thank you for your advice.

Say for example my laptop blew up tonight, how easy is to restore after a Macrium backup?

I get a new laptop, and plug my hard drive in, would it be self explanatory or would i need help?

if you are talking a hard disk or windows/not booting/virus/corruption problem:

assuming the disk image backup has been done correctly, you would.

attach backup drive to machine via usb

boot from macrium cd, which you should have created.

it will load a version of linux, follow the restore wizard, which ask where the backup file is, and what you want to restore (eg, one partition, or all partitions), hit go, make a cup of tea, wait until it's finished, remove cd, boot, it's done

Could take 5-10 minutes upwards, depends how much data is on the backup

    ---

if you are talking about something so drastic that the machine is no longer functioning at all, then the easiest solution is to buy new laptop, install macrium, attach external hard disk, mount the image backup by clicking on the file, and copy and paste your data to the new machine

If you are backing up the whole internal disk, to one or more (more is better) .img files on an external drive, and not doing clone backup, and have created one macrium boot cd, then yes, it's alright.

additionally, if you have important data, you cannot afford to lose, photo's, spreadsheets, burning them to dvd every so often is a good idea (and leave them on the internal disk too)

if the machine didn't come with a windows disc, and has the means of creating one, that's also useful to have

    Full backup on CD
    Full backup on HD
    Full backup on C:
    Image: Macrium

    enough?
  • I also have recovery discs which i created on the day I got it.

    Paranoid me?
