Opening a bank account as a non UK resident

Hi all,

I am a UK Citizen & Passport holder although i currently live in Cyprus, i would like to open a bank account in the UK due to the current financial mess that is occurring in Cyprus.
I have contacted a bank and they have advised me that i need to be living permanently in the UK in order to open a bank account, i explained that i have a close relative that lives here that i could use as a UK address but they did not accept this.

Can anybody please advise if there is a way to do this?

You may have to look at International accounts based offshore if you want to open one with the big UK banks.

I'm a non-resident living in Australia, and HSBC is happy to use my overseas address. However, I'd prefer to switch to another option (bank/building society etc.) with greater attention to investment ethics plus Internet banking. Any suggestions?
