Aa / halfords double trouble
We took out AA full breakdown cover for my car which is adapted to carry our severely disabled son that is ventilated.
We needed to call the AA out when the car broke down, resulting in it being recovered to the AA recommended repairers being Halfords Auto Centers.
The fault was a major repair and the cost exceeded the maximum limit for the claim of £500
An excess was also to be charged per claim of £35 for this cover.
I am unhappy to note that the following has occured:
To simplyfy the calculation I will assume the max cover of 500 was payable and the bill would be £500. Leaving only 35 excess to pay.
Not with the AA and Halfords
On my invoice the AA have credited
465.00 (less 35.00 excess) 500.00 - 35.00 Excess Charge.
Now in theory when you get to the garage if the bill was £500 you would with that credit be expected to pay £35

With Halfords the following has happened
Bill 500
Excess Charge 35.00 + Vat (42.00)
Total Bill 542.00
Less AA Payment 465.00
Total to pay £77.00

They insist this is correct. The AA tell them to charge me £35 and although the AA have deducted this at source.
The bill is substantially more and when spotting this i looked at the other charges applied.
Charge applied as took in by AA by Halfords / compared to charge i would get if i booked in same garage.
Diagnostics
AA Private
49.99 + Vat 39.99
Replace antifreeze
£35.00 + Vat £22.00
That was only the two i looked at but already there is a substantial overcharging occurring.
So I have to ask, why are the AA recommending these agents and why have the AA and Halfords both charged me excess.
Is this because the car is urgently needed for a disabled client, if so is this fair? or is this a regular issues affecting all members with this cover that need to claim, where does all the extra excess charges go?:money:
