is the mini clubman any good?

I used my mk4 golf for transporting goods around for my business.

I really wanted to buy an s2000 before I started my business but the car has really proven itself and I have been able to store surprisingly large loads with the seaats down that I've come to rely on it a little bit.

I don't think I need a proper estate car or a van yet. Wish the business was big enough to require a van so I could just buy a van and drive whatever passenger car I want. I'm stuck in the middle.

I was thinking whether an upgrade to the mini clubman will be worthwhile. I know that minis are good fun cars to drive around. But is the clubman just too big for the mini driving benefit advantages? Also is the rear storage actually big enough.

On my mk4 golf I can store boxes up to 1.4 meters long. Was wondering if the mini clubman would fit that?

The Clubman is smaller internally than the Golf so if the Golf is full most of the time then you will struggle with the Clubman.

The easiest answer is to go to your nearest Mini dealer and have a look yourself - even take the stuff you normally carry in the Golf and see if it will fit. They dont bite :)

    No.
And based on Watchdog the other night, I'd check the steering on them (and the rest of the BMW range) very carefully!
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Do a test drive of the Clubman and the Mini van side by side, apparently the van is supposed to be a much better than the clubman its based on.

The steering pump on Watchdog related to the 2001-2007 models with that specific pump/design.

Dunno what you budget is but this may be worth a look (not my cup of tea though)

  • I'm on my 2nd Mini clubman, love them; boot space is about 260L. Back seats fold down if required. This is a car you buy because you like them. They are different. Drive the golf and compare.
  • I've got a clubman - bought mainly for the dog as the boot is lower than on a hatch. There is not much depth (going forwards towards the rear seats) but if you take out the flat load floor, there is a lot of capacity in the boot for such a small car. I really love it, rattles and all (seems to be a common problem)
