Boiler Controllers

I have a 10 year old Alpha Combi Boiler and the controller looks like it was used to close the doors of Noah's Ark. So 2 questions really
1) Do I need to have one of Alpha's controllers, or can I swap it out with a for example Danfoss controller?
2) Can you DIY it or do you need a Gas Safe accredited installer or Part P Electrician to do it for you?
Thanks

So would I just have to terminate the boiler control wires and fit a prog thermostat elsewhere or would a prog thermostat replace the current controller?
I don't have a room thermostat only radiator stats. The controller is hidden away under the stairs.Yellowlawn

The existing controller would be redundant if you fitted a programmable stat, so you could use the cable running from the controller to the boiler as the cable from the boiler to the new programmable stat, extending it as necessary to locate the stat in a suitable position in the hall or lounge.
You would have much better control of your heating system with an easily fitted programmable stat. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
