Need Help Trying to Sell a Mobility Scooter

Hi Everyone
I'm looking for a bit of advice and wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.
I'm trying to sell a second hand mobility scooter that belonged to my father, he bought it in December 2012 for £1,800 used it maybe 6 times then sadly passed away in February this year.
He did a little bit of damage to the plastic around the front light, taking out the smoking shelter down the pub, but I have the pieces and they can be stuck back on, it's not major damage.
I have tried local adverts in shops and papers, friends have been asking about and I went to the place he bought it from to ask if they will buy it back, but their not interested.
I rang a couple of local second hand companies and got offered £200 at the most. I understand that I wont get the full money back for my mum but I don't feel £200 is a good offer.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.
Thanks

If it's an ordinary one and he paid £1800 for it he paid at least twice as much as he should have. On the other hand, if it's a 4 wheel drive rough terrain one, that was a good price.
Sadly many mobility scooters aren't used much, so there are quite a few nearly-new second hand ones around. Your best bet would be Ebay. Why not have a look there for the exact model you have and see what "sold" prices are like?0 -

Thank you, I had a look on ebay, the same model is ranging from £500 to £800 second hand. It's a 4 wheel one and quiet heavy duty, he bought it from a specialist local shop. I think he could of got something just as good for half the price. He never told me he was getting it, if I had known I would of gone along to help him. It looks like I could loose alot of money for my mum on this one.0 -

I had exactly the same problem with a riser recliner chair.
The local paper almost produced a buyer but he was so overweight that the chair was too narrow.
If someone buys it on (say) ebay, can you deliver it?
[Fortunately in my case, it just fitted into the back of my old estate car.]
There is obviously a huge profit margin in aids for old folks but on the other hand the nature of the transaction must mean that it can need after sales support in many cases.
As a private seller you won't need to supply such after sales services.0 -

I could try ebay, but there is quiet a few on there already that don't seem to be selling, people seem to want something for nothing. It might be worth a try though.
Unfortunately it's too big and heavy for me to deliver, it's in a different location from where I live and I only have a little peugeot.
My last option is to perhaps donate it to a charity where they can get good use out of it, I would rather do that than sell it to a salesman for £200. My dad was quiet thrifty with money so wouldn't be happy at me giving it away, but I'm running out of time as I cant keep it in it's present location for much longer.0 -
I bought a second hand scooter on Ebay and, although I didn't need them, I noticed several people offering delivery services for people who bought them.0

HUGE markup on mobility scooters. And probably most things with the word disability.
That £1800 scooter is probably worth around £600 to the supplier as it comes out of the container.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My local hospice shop often has mobility scooters in for sale & most of them look pristine & in showroom condition. They tend to be priced around the £200-£250 mark, so obviously they consider that a reasonable value that will soon attract buyers. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Thanks for all your comments and advice.
I think my dad paid way too much for the scooter, I wish I knew he was buying it as I would of gone with him.
If I cant sell it, I'm going to find a charity to donate it to where it can perhaps be used by people who need it, maybe a day centre for the elderly or disabled where it might help others.
I would rather it went to a good home and help others than to a salesman to make a profit.0
