new guttering 2 wildly differing quotes which is realistic or are neither?

Options
Had a quote for replacing our old cast iron guttering with new plastic. Its an end of terrace house with probably original guttering .
Needs one full length rain pipe replacing too.
The kitchen extension gutter is plastic but quite scratched and discoloured with its own down pipe.

The first man came, took pictures, remarked upon the state of the rain pipes and gave 2 quotes one with kitchen extension, one without.
945 and 1175

The second took a quick glance, said he didnt need to replace the brackets, they would just put the plastic pipe on the existing brackets, he didnt seem to think he would need any scaffold.
He said he could join the plastic gutter to next doors short length of cast iron(she has plastic but left the last few feet where it joined ours, as cast iron.
400 without kitchen
500 with .

I think the 2nd person was probably thinking of doing the absolute bare minimum so I dont think we will go with him, plus he seemed to think I would decide while he waited.

However is the first quote steep or reasonable?

Is it a gable end or a hipped roof? How many linear meters are we talking about?

If the first includes scaffolding but the second doesn't there's your price variation.

Using the old brackets may seem OK but its inevitable that the profile of the gutter will be different so it won't fit.

Negotiate with your neighbour to remove the short length of cast and connect your new plastic to her old plastic. Its also inevitable that the profiles of the two plastics won't be an interference fit either but thats fixable. Leaving a short length of cast up there is ludicrous.

I think you would be wise to get a third quote for comparison purposes.

    Thank you Keystone!
Yes OH did say he didn't think the brackets would work but he wasn't there to comment to the guttering guy, only me.
I'm afraid I don't know the term for the type of roof, it is the kind that slopes in on all 3 sides like a pyramid cut in half.
about 21 feet on each of the 3 sides I think and the kitchen section is quite small just about 6 feet and one story.

We have another person coming to give a quote tomorrow.

I replaced a short section of my cast iron guttering and the weight was unbelievably heavy when i undid it. There's no way you could do it without scaffold right underneath to catch it.

    Thats a hipped roof.

So about 7 metres plus 2 metres then. The second guy's prices are pretty close I think if theres no access equipment hire involved.

    OK.
