NPOWER OCT 2013 Energy online saver More exspensive than standard tariff

I have been using the above tariff for past year thinking it is a good deal[guaranteed 3% less than standard tariff] and have just found out today, whilst enquiring of new tariffs that since May 2013 the standard tariff has been cheaper as they changed the standing charges [which dont come under guarantee],so as there is a £30 exit fee I am tied in till end of next month on an even higher rate than standard .So I suggest anyone thinking of the online save oct 2014 be wary of terms and conditions.

just done comparison using just electric with 10000 units used over year and it appears you maybe have got it wrong, standard tariff is def more expensive, abviously I just used a rough figure, and just electric, so if u use gas it be diffrent
    Electricity

    Energy Online October 2013
43.890 pence per day Standing Charge
    12.170 pence per kWh
    6.479 pence per kWh
    Exit Fee£30
    total cost of £1,022.14

    standard tariff
12.747 pence per day Standing Charge
    18.501 pence per kWh
    5.775 pence per kWh
    both with Economy 7 55% 55%
    total cost of £1,196.70

No idea why you are using the electricity prices or 10,000 kWh as a typical usage. (And I have no idea why you are quoting E7 prices.)

Energy Online is NOT a fixed tariff - it has a fixed reduction off the variable standard tariff for a fixed period of time.

Presumably the 3% guarantee only applies if you use exactly 16,500 kWh of gas and 3,300 kWh of electricity over a year. And in a mythical averagely priced region. The OP is correct - npower are probably free to manipulate the mix between standing charge and unit price as much as they like.
  • as I said in my post it was just a rough idea to test to see if actually it was more expensive (standard tariff) I entered just electric as that's what I,m on, abviously the OP may be on gas aswell

but for me standard tariff comes out more expensive than the variable (not fixed) energy online price
