First point of call would be the school/college where he took them, then the awarding body for certified copies.
There will be a small charge for the copies.0 -
contact the school to find out the examining board - and then contact them.
it may well be AQA - however do look first as they can be £30 each to replace, and that may well add up quickly.

I was able to get proof of mine through the examining board. I think they charged £10 for the GCSE levels and £10 for A levels.
They seem to charge a fee for each statement of results for exams taken in the same time period.0 -
Yes but a statement of results is not a copy of a certificate, some organisations may require a certificate as evidence.0

Have a look here
http://ofqual.gov.uk/help-and-advice/getting-a-replacement-certificate/
It does state - "Exam boards don’t give replacement certificates. So if you’ve lost your certificate, you will instead get a certified statement of results or a letter confirming your results. The exam board may charge for this service. Both of these are recognised by universities, colleges, professional bodies and employer"0 -

When I had to get a copy of mine, admittedly 10 years ago or so, I was told that it wasnt possible to get a copy of the certs themselves just a statement.0 -
Apologies then, I dont usually deal with GCSEs, rather FE courses so it may be different but with Awarding Organisations such as City & Guilds, Edexcel etc. they send out replacements but charge.0

Just a warning that the school may not know which exam boards he used. I'm an exams officer and I often get ex students ringing up to say they've lost their certificates.
I've been in the job for a couple of years now and one of my tasks at the start of the year is to check with all the Heads of Dept what course they are teaching over the coming year. There are probably 5 main exam boards used in England - AQA, Edexcel (now Pearsons), OCR, CIE and WJEC. Teachers tend to change courses every few years as specifications are changed.
I tell students I can only tell them which Board we are using for each subject NOW - that may not be the same Board the school was using 8 years ago.
Check with the school first by all means but you may have to work your way through the exam boards to find all his results.
I'm constantly shocked by how many people lose their certificates. I still have all mine from the 1970s/1980s!!0
