Anyone ever tried cooking through a whole cookbook?

If you want to try that, can I recommend "The Cookery Year"? I have loads of cookbooks and I have used this one by far the most. It also has suggested menues month-by-month, and recipes for left-overs.

(I prefer the original edition, not the updated one - the recipes are simpler)0 -

In reality I would not be aiming to do a book recipe every day as that would just be too stressful, and kind of defeat the object, but just to 'tick them off' when I did them. The problem I find with cookbooks is that there will be loads of recipes I can't use because they contain ingredients that are not liked, eg, although some of us like brocolli, cauliflower, swede etc, others in the family don't. It's not a problem when they're used as an accompaniment, but I can't make a cauliflower curry.
I really do like this idea so thanks to the OP (sorry, can't remember who you are!) I shall have a think about books and rules and start when I write my next menu plan ...Household: Laura + William-cat

Brilliant challenge, I have thought about doing it, but never actually done it.
I might try it with the hairy bikers diet books.0 -

My mum has a copy of this, I remember it very well from when I was little. It does have some very nice recipes in it!the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -

I was thinking about those books too. The first one is actually my most used cookery book and everything I have made from it so far (about 5 things) was delicious although obviously I only made the things I liked the look of!
There are about 75 recipes in there and there are definitely ones that would take me out of my comfort zone (mainly the fish/seafood - prawns, whole fish, mussels). One a week for 18mths would cover it nicely. I'm quite tempted....0 -

Haha, I like your thinking! :rotfl:
I received my copy of the new Jamie Oliver book that I won, and also got Nigel Slater's new book yesterday, so whilst I won't be using all the recipes in them, I have earmarked a few to try out.0 -

I might join in with this. I recently bought the Hairy Bikers Great Curries book. I've made a couple and they are really good. I would like to try more of them so think I will do it with DH as date night on Saturdays. Look forward to hear what other books are good.Fashion on a ration 0 of 660

I've always thought it would be fun/interesting to follow Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries for a year - if nothing else you'd eat well!0
