Phew! Big Budgeting session completed, just got a basket of filing to do. The much lower than usual balance on our latest statement was very scary yesterday when I saw it, but it turned out to be due to mr f's work falling behind in paying his travel expenses (to the tune of about £450) & mr f having a meltdown over his credit card pin number, which locked the card, meaning petrol had been going on ordinary debit card. This meant more funds coming out of current account, but the credit card we use for petrol (paid off in full each month so we get free M&S vouchers) was much lower. We are still lower in our account than I'd like to be (I have a 'comfort zone' below which I don't like us to fall) but projected budget for Oct looks like we'll be in a better place than end of Sept, as long as we stick to those budgets!! ANOTHER example of feeling much better as soon as I've done all the sums & know exactly where we are.....if only I'd discovered this years earlier & not had the 'glance at bank statement with eyes closed before putting in drawer with all the others' decades...... Oh well, better to reform in one's 40s than not at all!

  • ARGH! MSE ate my post!

SFTM - thanks for the kick off this morning

DNMS - thanks for the welcome back

Perni - ditto and fingers crossed for your interview

ally - ditto for your interview if you decide to take it.

Yesterday successful as OH went out and didn't drink. I also got (most) of the candle wax off the carpet with an iron and the free local paper.

    Today's mission:

    Nab blu-tack as forgot yesterday.

Email myself the budget sheet incase pay appears over the weekend. Payslip did not arrive today and payday is Monday.

    B/L/D from stores.

    Overtime

Introduced my friend to the joy of saynoto0870 :money:

    Free Milicano coffee at brekkie

Using work's wifi instead of my phone data (naughty!)

Hope that OH's uni decide to give the Brazil trip students a grant to help towards costs. Decision pending, but could be £300-£500. Try to persuade OH to pay his bro back rather than spending said money.

Have a good one all :)

  • Completely agree about the budgeting Foxgloves, I really don't know how on earth I spent so much money.
Half the battle is setting yourself limits - and I'm such a naturally competitive person, I often find myself wanting to "beat" those limits, which leads to more savings!

Welcome Brangwen!! You'll find some fantastic advice from the clever people on this thread - ideas that I would never have thought of, to really help the pennies stack up!!

Huge well done to Iancrt too - sounds like you are making amazing progress!! It is indeed a fantastic feeling! Good on you telling your daughter to save towards what she wants - it will set her up well in life, no doubt!
One of my biggest life lessons was going from being completely ruined by my mum and dad to blowing student loans to then working and living independently, with credit so disgustingly easily available - I'm glad I've seen the light now, at 26 I'm building towards a future where credit won't be necessary, except a mortgage when the time is right...

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for starting us off SFTM.
DNMS - I'm really not sure on the interview! In some ways it was good & in others I wish I could go back & sound more positive instead of saying "I think...". I'll find out soon though, the decision will be announced on Wednesday & I'll find out if I've got a second interview or not sometime before then! You are crazy to be doing such long days, I hope you are getting a hefty amount of overtime!
Ally - Thanks for the tip about the body shop, I will definitely have to make use of that! Hope my local store is participating.
Carrie - Thank you. Fingers crossed the uni pays out!

    Today's plan:-
    • Making use of free water & pain au chocolat at work :D
    • Food from stores
    • Dinner from meal plan - Beef enchiladas
    • Staying in for my lunch break to avoid spending
    • Log calories & exercise on free apps
    • Checked birthday bingo
    • Check online banking
    • Check for new mystery shopping opportunities
    • Enter some comps
    • Do some surveys
    • Declutter & flylady
    • DH hopefully doing some overtime today
    • Heating off, fleecey dressing gowns on instead
    • Keep an eye on items listed on fleabay
    • Send an invoice for items not listed on fleabay currently but got a message from a buyer who bought 1 pack a few months ago & now wants another 2 :j
    • See if the frame I've seen for my friend's xmas present is cheaper elsewhere, would make us £2 under budget currently so not too fussed if I don't find it cheaper but it all helps :)
    • Go to second job this evening, driving not drinking
    • Enquire if my local body shop is participating as per Ally's link, fingers crossed
Hope you're all ok & have a great MSE day x

  • I'm trying to get every UK citizen to sign my eBay petition. So far I have 92!!! Hopefully there are some like minded people here who feel the decision to charge 10% on postal costs is a disgrace. If you do, find a reputable search engine and type in "Investigate if eBay's new policy of charging 10% for postage costs is legal". Thanks

I didn't phrase it very well. I am going to take the interview (nothing to lose); I meant I was going to think about what I'd need to say in the interview. :)

Don't you just hate heart-stopping moments? But you're strong and you handled it. Yay!

Told daughter if she wants an Ipad for Xmas she has to save £100 towards it.

Wish there were more parents like you.
